"Colin Lamb" is the pseudonym for a son of Superintendent Battle. Poirot remembers him by the first name Colin, but his last name is presumably Battle. Lamb was chosen for ironic reasons.
Colin is a marine biologist by qualification but has been working for many years as a spy or agent of MI5 or MI6 when he stumbles over the adventure of The Clocks.
